Revolutionizing In-Car Entertainment: Sony Pictures and IMAX Partner with Mercedes-Benz
The automotive and entertainment industries are set for a transformative shift as Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), IMAX, Mercedes-Benz, and DTS unveil plans to integrate high-quality in-car entertainment. Starting this summer, select Mercedes-Benz models equipped with the latest MBUX media system will offer SPE's RIDEVU service, featuring IMAX Enhanced content. This collaboration promises to elevate the visual and audio experience of watching films while on the road, providing an unparalleled cinematic experience within vehicles.
This new venture will deliver IMAX’s signature picture and sound quality outside traditional theaters. The RIDEVU service will include specially curated IMAX Enhanced films, showcasing expanded aspect ratios, proprietary digital remastering, and immersive sound technology. Available in multiple languages, these films will be accessible in various markets including the U.S., Canada, Japan, the UK, Ireland, and Germany. Additionally, users can control playback across multiple screens, enhancing the entertainment experience for both drivers and passengers.
Enhancing Visual and Audio Quality in Vehicles
With the integration of IMAX Enhanced content into Mercedes-Benz vehicles, viewers can expect a significant upgrade in both visual and audio fidelity. The partnership leverages IMAX’s renowned expertise in delivering superior picture and sound quality, now tailored specifically for in-car viewing. This marks a major milestone in bringing cinema-grade experiences directly to the automobile.
IMAX Enhanced films will feature an expanded aspect ratio and undergo a proprietary digital remastering process to ensure optimal clarity and detail. The DTS:X sound system will provide an immersive audio environment, making every journey feel like a private screening room. Titles such as "Venom: The Last Dance," "Spider-Man: No Way Home," and "Uncharted" will be among the first to benefit from this cutting-edge technology. By combining these elements, the in-car entertainment experience will reach unprecedented levels of immersion and enjoyment.
Pioneering Personalized In-Car Entertainment
Sony Pictures Entertainment’s RIDEVU service is poised to redefine how we entertain ourselves during travel. Fully integrated with Mercedes-Benz vehicles, RIDEVU offers seamless access to thousands of movies through built-in screens or mobile devices. This service supports personalized viewing experiences, allowing passengers to enjoy individual or shared content on up to six screens simultaneously.
Users can easily manage playback using Screen Manager, which provides centralized control from the vehicle’s main display. Whether parked or on the move, drivers and passengers can stream, rent, or purchase films with ease. The service is available in several countries and demonstrates Sony Pictures' commitment to pushing the boundaries of content delivery. As Pete Wood, senior vice president of digital sales at SPE, emphasized, this initiative aims to transform every journey into an immersive entertainment experience. Vikram Arumilli of IMAX further highlighted that this collaboration bridges the gap between home and vehicle entertainment, offering personalized options wherever consumers desire.
